Protecting Mother Gaia: How You Can Contribute To Ridding The World Of Harmful Plastic

reduce harmful plastics

Mother Gaia is dying.

While there are many political agendas which spit in the face of science, research, and statistical data, the truth is, humans are destroying the planet at an alarming rate.

There are many ways in which we can slow the change and even reverse it, but it will take a massive effort from all of us. There are big, lifestyle choices we can make, but not everyone is ready for that.

One such effort everyone can make is cutting back on harmful plastic. Cutting back on plastic doesn’t require a difficult lifestyle change or making serious sacrifices.

As far as protecting Mother Gaia, it is in fact, one of the easiest things we can do.

Read on for how you can contribute to ridding the world of harmful plastic!

Enough With the Plastic Waterbottles

More than 60 million plastic water bottles are thrown away every day. Think about how much harmful plastic water bottles plague the earth every year.

People really like drinking fresh, cold, clean water. However, there are certainly better ways to go about it than using disposable water bottles.

For example, eco-friendly water bottles are easy on the environment and reusable. They come in all shapes, sizes, and styles.

Bring Reusable Bags Grocery Shopping

Americans use 100 billion plastic bags each year. 100 billion. Try for a moment to understand that number.

By bringing our own eco-friendly, reusable bags to the grocery store, we can cut out roughly 20 bags per trip. This is one of the easiest transitions out of using harmful plastic.

R-e-c-y-c-l-e, recycle!

Most of us have forgotten or have become too lazy as adults to do it.

Recycling helps reduce waste, obviously. However, it also takes much less energy to reuse materials than to create them. Additionally, recycling keeps waste out of ecosystems like oceans, lakes, and beaches.

Harmful plastics affect roughly 500 marine species.

This protects plantlife, wildlife, and humans. Waste can create health issues for people living in waste-filled areas.

For Goodness Sake, Don’t Litter

This is grade school stuff. Don’t litter, especially harmful plastics. Not only is it horrible for the environment, but it’s incredibly lazy and inconsiderate.

Throwing your trash on the ground rather than in a trash can is a statement of complete indifference to the planet and other people.

Show Your Support

There are plenty of ways to show your support in the fight against harmful plastics.

Volunteer to help clean up polluted areas or donate money to organizations that do.

Veto Single-Use Plastics

Finally, a great way to personally help rid the planet of harmful plastics is to stop using them, especially disposable, single-use plastics.

Don’t allow excuses like trips, vacations, and hiking. There are ways to be eco-friendly on your camping trips and other family outings.

These are perhaps the most wasteful products on the planet.

Eco-Friendly Products

At Eco Living, we are trying to rid the world of harmful plastic water bottles by creating fun and unique eco-friendly bottles of our own.

We also carry travel mugs and tea-infusers!

Do your part, stop using plastic water bottles and buy from an eco-friendly company!

No one denies that the world is drowning in plastic, with a majority of our plastic waste ending up in the ocean. Unfortunately, humans have not done enough to combat our use of plastic in our everyday lives. This has severely impacted our Earth and will continue to do so.

Luckily, all of us can contribute to the fight against plastic waste. One way to do this is by replacing our plastic use with more sustainable options, such as wheat straw. Wheat straw is a compostable, reusable material that comes from the waste produced when wheat grains are harvested.

Here are a few reasons on why you should look to use wheat straw water bottles instead of plastic bottles.

1. It’s Biodegradable

When you are looking to be environmentally-conscious, the word biodegradable goes a long way. Instead of simply throwing your water bottle away and it ends up in the ocean, a wheat straw water bottle will easily break down in a short amount of time and will never end up as permanent waste.

The biodegradable aspect comes from wheat straw’s origin as a grain, an already organic material.

2. There’s an Abundance of It

Wheat straw is a great option to consider over other “eco-friendly” materials because of how abundant it is. Wheat straw is produced from the waste that farmers create when harvesting grain, and usually ends up burnt as waste.

By creating a demand for wheat straw, you are not only avoiding the waste that comes from harvesting grain, but you are also replacing the use of plastic.

3. It’s Very Durable

One of the main benefits of using plastic is that it is durable, so it can be shipped long distances and used for water bottles. At the same time, many people want water bottles that won’t instantly break on their first use. Wheat straw is the perfect answer.

Wheat straw has been genetically modified to become a plastic-like material and is very sturdy and reliable.

4. Can Handle Most Liquids

Far too many “eco-friendly” water bottles usually fail in their purpose of being a water bottle. Specifically, the material usually fails and allows water to leak, or will not keep your drink warm or cold after a long amount of time.

Luckily, wheat straw is a material that solves this problem. For example, wheat straw travel mugs can keep your liquids warm or cold, so long as the liquid is under 200 degrees Fahrenheit. This means that you can use wheat straw water bottles for things like your morning coffee or your workout smoothie.

Wheat straw water bottles are a great solution to both the problem of leftover harvested grain waste and to the problem of extra plastic. This is an affordable solution that you can use on a daily basis, and can easily compost when you no longer need it!
